The main task of the SV-2 is to illuminate the visible reading part of an aircraft instrument. It can be used above round cockpit instruments, control panel sections, switch panels and small illuminated areas where direct but narrow lighting is needed. Unlike general cabin lights, the SV-2 does not illuminate the whole cockpit. It gives local light to a specific instrument or panel zone so that the crew can read markings and values without excessive glare.

SV-2 vertical slot lighting design

The SV-2 is a compact vertical slot light with a narrow optical opening. This design helps direct the light onto the instrument scale and reduce unwanted light spread. The fixture is small enough to be mounted on instrument panel brows, panel edges or directly above individual gauges. Its compact body and built-in lead wire make it suitable for dense cockpit layouts where there is limited space behind or above the instrument panel.

Lamp and power supply of the SV-2 light

The SV-2 operates from a 5.5 V DC power supply and uses a miniature incandescent lamp SM-6.3-1.4. Power consumption is not more than 2 W, which is suitable for grouped cockpit lighting circuits. Since the lamp is low-voltage, it must be connected through the correct aircraft lighting circuit or voltage supply. Direct connection to a higher-voltage aircraft bus is not permitted unless the circuit includes the required transformer, regulator or approved power feed.

SV-2 color filter versions

The SV-2 may be supplied with white, red or green light filters. Red light is typically used for night cockpit operation because it helps preserve the crew’s dark adaptation. White light may be used for standard day, dusk or maintenance illumination. Green light may be used on selected aircraft or special equipment for specific scale or panel lighting tasks. When ordering, the required filter color should be confirmed together with the installed lamp type and aircraft documentation.

SV-2 on aircraft panels and crew workstations

The SV-2 is installed on instrument panels and control consoles of civil and military aircraft and helicopters. Typical positions include the brows above instrument scales, side and overhead panels, switch panels, annunciator areas and crew workstations. It may be used at pilot, navigator, flight engineer or radio operator positions depending on the cockpit layout. The exact number and location of lights must be checked by the aircraft cockpit lighting documentation.

Aircraft and special equipment application

The SV-2 is used on various Soviet and Russian aircraft and helicopters, including Mi-2, Mi-8, Mi-24, An-24, An-26, Tu-134, Tu-154 and Il-76 depending on configuration. It may also be found on military vehicles, mobile command posts, KUNG-type mobile cabins and stationary control panels where compact low-voltage instrument lighting is required. For aircraft supply, applicability should be confirmed by the aircraft parts catalog and lighting-system documentation.

Supply and inspection of SV-2

For procurement or replacement, the unit should be specified as SV-2 / SV-2, with the required filter color and lamp type confirmed in advance. Before installation, the light should be inspected for housing condition, filter condition, lamp operation, lead wire integrity and mounting suitability. For aviation use, product passport, technical conditions, quality documents or acceptance documentation should be confirmed where required.
