Description

BANO-64 green navigation light on aircraft

The BANO-64 green is an onboard aircraft navigation light fitted with a green glass light filter. It is installed on the right side of an aircraft, usually on the right wing tip or right-side airframe position depending on aircraft design. Its main function is to mark the aircraft’s right side during night operation, taxiing, parking, ground movement and flight. Together with the red left-side light, it helps other crews and ground personnel visually determine the aircraft’s position and direction of movement.

Right-side position function of the BANO-64 green light

In aircraft navigation lighting, the green light identifies the right side of the aircraft. When seen together with the red light on the left side, it gives a clear visual reference for aircraft orientation. This is important at night, in poor visibility, during formation positioning, on the apron and during ground handling. The BANO-64 green does not work as a landing light or searchlight. It is a side navigation / position light intended for visibility and orientation of the aircraft outline.

BANO-64 green with incandescent lamp

The BANO-64 green uses an incandescent lamp and a colored glass filter. The lamp provides the light source, while the green filter forms the required color for the right-side navigation position. The unit includes a metal base, lamp holder and glass filter. Since the light works in exposed aircraft positions, the condition of the filter, lamp holder, contacts and base is important. A cracked filter, weak contact, incorrect lamp or damaged mounting base can reduce visibility or cause unreliable operation.

Installation of BANO-64 green on aircraft

The BANO-64 green is installed on the right wing console, wing tip or right-side fuselage / nacelle position, depending on the aircraft type. The unit is mounted through three holes in the base. During replacement, the mounting position and direction of light coverage must be kept correct, because the navigation light has a defined horizontal angle of operation. The green light is normally paired with a red BANO-64 unit on the left side of the aircraft.

BANO-64 green in aircraft lighting systems

The BANO-64 is part of aircraft external lighting equipment. It is used in onboard navigation light circuits powered from the aircraft electrical system. The light may be installed on both civil and military aircraft of Soviet and Russian design. Its simple construction makes it widely used across different platforms, but the exact installation version, wiring and mounting arrangement should still be checked against the aircraft maintenance manual and parts catalog.

Aircraft application of the BANO-64 green

The BANO-64 green navigation light can be found on light, training, transport, passenger and rotary-wing aircraft. Typical applications include Yak-18T, Yak-52, An-2, An-24, An-26, An-72, Il-76 and various Tupolev aircraft, depending on configuration. It is also used on helicopters of the Mil and Kamov families, including Mi-2, Mi-8, Mi-24, Ka-26 and Ka-32. Applicability should always be confirmed by aircraft type and modification.

Supply and inspection of BANO-64 green

For procurement or replacement, the unit should be specified as BANO-64 green, with the required color filter clearly stated. This matters because the same light family may include left-side red and right-side green versions. Before installation, the lamp type, base type, filter color, mounting holes, contacts and housing condition should be checked. For aviation use, the unit should be supplied with available passport, quality documents or acceptance documentation when required.
