Description

EPK-2T-60 windshield wiper drive mechanism

EPK-2T-60 is an aircraft electromechanical drive mechanism used in windshield wiper systems of helicopters and aircraft. The unit drives the wiper brush and provides reciprocating movement across the cockpit windshield. It is used on aircraft where reliable cleaning of the pilot’s forward glazing is required during rain, snow, wet contamination or ground operation. In Mi-8 / Mi-17 type helicopters, the mechanism is installed near the cockpit windshield and works as part of the windshield wiping system together with the wiper arm, brush, control circuit and electrical wiring.

Windshield cleaning function of EPK-2T-60

The EPK-2T-60 converts electrical power from the aircraft DC network into mechanical motion of the wiper arm. The output shaft moves through a limited angular sector, causing the brush to sweep over the windshield surface. This allows the crew to maintain visibility during precipitation and when water or contamination is present on the glass. The mechanism must provide stable movement without jamming, excessive play or irregular speed. Brush pressure, sweep angle, electrical supply condition and the mechanical condition of the drive all affect the quality of windshield cleaning.

EPK-2T-60 construction with D-70T motor

The EPK-2T-60 combines a D-70T DC electric motor and mechanical reduction system in one assembly. The D-70T is a closed, non-ventilated, two-pole motor with series excitation. The reduction mechanism includes two planetary gear stages, a bevel gear pair and a crank-rocker mechanism. This mechanical chain reduces motor speed, increases output torque and converts continuous motor rotation into oscillating wiper movement. The mechanism is compact enough for installation near cockpit glazing, while still providing the output force needed to move the wiper under aircraft operating conditions.

Automatic return and braking in EPK-2T-60

The EPK-2T-60 includes an internal interrupter and automatic return mechanism. When the system is switched to the reset mode, the mechanism brings the wiper brush to its initial parked position outside the main field of view. The interrupter also closes the dynamic braking circuit, helping stop the brush in the required end position. This function is important because a stopped brush in the pilot’s viewing area can interfere with visibility. Correct operation of the reset and braking circuit should be checked during maintenance together with the motor, switch circuit and mechanical drive.

Installation of EPK-2T-60 on Mi-8 and aircraft cockpits

On Mi-8 / Mi-17 helicopters, the EPK-2T-60 is mounted inside the cockpit above the forward windshield. The mechanism is fixed to structural elements of the cockpit canopy frame, and the output shaft passes through a sealing unit to the outside, where the wiper arm and brush are installed. On aircraft such as An-24 and An-26, similar installation may be located under the skin or inside the upper or side cockpit glazing frame area, depending on the aircraft modification. The mechanism is always mounted close to the glass it cleans.

Identification and ordering of EPK-2T-60

Before ordering EPK-2T-60, the aircraft type, installation side, required sweep angle, condition and documentation set should be confirmed. The unit may be requested for operational replacement, repair stock or overhaul support of the windshield wiper system. If the item is intended for Mi-8 / Mi-17 installation, it is useful to confirm the wiper arm, brush, control switch and wiring condition as well. For acceptance, the buyer should clarify passport availability, test records, connector configuration, serviceability documents and whether interchangeability with EPK-2T-90 is required.
