P-1 temperature receiver in the IR-117M system

P-1, also referred to as P-1Tr, is an aircraft temperature receiver used in IR-117 / IR-117M engine operating mode indication systems. The unit measures outside air temperature and provides an electrical signal for temperature correction of engine mode indication. It is not a cockpit indicator by itself. The receiver works as a sensing element in the measurement chain, allowing the engine mode system to account for ambient temperature when assessing operating conditions.

Temperature measurement through P-1Tr

The receiver converts outside air temperature into a change of electrical resistance. This resistance value is transmitted to the receiving instrument or measuring circuit, where it is used for correction of engine operating mode parameters. Since air temperature changes with altitude, weather and flight conditions, the temperature input is necessary for more accurate indication. The unit is designed for stable measurement and fast thermal response, so the sensing element can react quickly to changing airflow temperature.

P-1 with IR-117 and IR-117M instruments

The temperature receiver operates together with the IR-117 / IR-117M system elements, including pressure receivers, altitude correction sensor and cockpit engine mode indicator. In this chain, P-1 supplies the temperature correction input, while pressure sensors provide compressor outlet and atmospheric pressure data. If the engine mode indication is incorrect, the check should include not only the temperature receiver, but also the wiring, connector, measuring current, pressure sensors and receiving instrument.

Aircraft application of P-1 / P-1Tr

The receiver is used on aircraft and helicopters equipped with compatible engine operating mode indication systems. In helicopter applications, it is associated with IR-117 and IR-117M sets used for monitoring engine modes under different flight conditions. Exact installation depends on aircraft type, engine configuration and system layout. Because temperature receivers may differ by resistance characteristics, mounting version or documentation reference, replacement should be confirmed through the aircraft and system documentation.

Before ordering, the full designation should be checked against the product passport, IR-117 / IR-117M documentation or aircraft parts catalog. It is useful to confirm the resistance values, mounting length, connector arrangement and installed system version. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, engine type, indication system designation and a photo of the existing receiver or passport entry if available.
