Description

Aircraft ground power plug SHRAP-500K

SHRAP-500K is an aircraft electrical ground power plug installed on the airframe. It is used to connect a ground power cable to the aircraft onboard DC network during ground operation. Through this connector, the aircraft can receive external power for engine start preparation, system checks, battery support and operation of onboard equipment while the engines or onboard generators are not running. SHRAP-500K is the aircraft-mounted part of the external power interface, not the cable socket used on the ground power unit side.

External DC power connection through SHRAP-500K

In service, SHRAP-500K provides a high-current DC connection between the aircraft and a ground power source. The connector transfers power from an APA-type ground unit or another compatible ground supply to the onboard electrical bus. It does not regulate voltage and does not switch consumers by itself. Its role is to provide a reliable mechanical and electrical contact. For this reason, worn pins, damaged insulation, poor soldering or contamination inside the connector can cause voltage drop, heating or unstable external power connection.

SHRAP-500K plug construction

The SHRAP-500K plug is made as an aircraft-mounted connector without a rigid locking device in the mated position. This layout allows the ground cable to be disconnected quickly if required. The contact pins are made from copper alloys and are nickel-plated for wear resistance. The insulators are made from pressed insulating material, while the body is made from aluminium alloy. The connector may be supplied with rubber protective covers that close the contact area when the aircraft is parked and the plug is not in use.

Installation and maintenance of SHRAP-500K

SHRAP-500K is installed in the aircraft external power connection area according to the airframe documentation. Cable connection to the connector is made by soldering, so the quality of the solder joint is part of the electrical condition of the installation. During inspection, maintenance personnel normally check the condition of the pins, body, insulation, protective covers and mounting area. The connector should also be checked after overheating, arcing marks, hard cable pull or contamination with moisture, dust or fuel residues.

Identification and ordering of SHRAP-500K

Before ordering SHRAP-500K, it is important to confirm that the aircraft requires the onboard plug version, not the mating cable connector. Similar airfield power connectors may differ by current rating, current type, contact layout and mounting form. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, existing connector marking, installation position and, if possible, a photo of the installed part. The product is also known under alternative designations SHRAP-500K, ShRAP-500K and ШРАП-500К.
