ceramic spark igniter plug
Out of stock
SD-96 is an aircraft ceramic spark igniter plug used in ignition systems of auxiliary heating equipment. Its main task is to create the initial spark for ignition of the fuel-air mixture in heater combustion chambers. This plug is not intended for general electrical switching or signal circuits. It works as part of a heating or preheating system where kerosene fuel must be ignited in a controlled start sequence.
During start, the ignition unit sends a high-voltage pulse to the SD-96 plug. The spark appears at the working end of the plug and ignites the atomized kerosene-air mixture inside the combustion chamber. After stable combustion is reached, the heater continues to operate according to its own control logic. The plug is therefore mainly involved in the start phase, but its condition directly affects reliable ignition. Cracks in the ceramic, damaged electrodes or poor cable contact can cause unstable start or no ignition.
The SD-96 plug is mainly associated with aviation kerosene air heaters, including KO-50 series heaters used on Mi-8 / Mi-17 / Mi-171 family helicopters. In these installations, the heater supplies warm air for aircraft systems, cabin areas or equipment zones, depending on the aircraft configuration. The plug works with the heater ignition unit, fuel supply circuit, airflow system and combustion chamber. It should be selected according to the heater documentation rather than only by aircraft type.
The SD-96 is also used in heating and preheating equipment such as UPV-1 units, where an ignition source is required for kerosene combustion. In these systems the operating environment is different from engine combustion chambers, but the plug still has to withstand heat, fuel exposure and repeated start cycles. The ceramic insulator is important here. It keeps the high-voltage path stable and helps the plug operate under temperature changes typical for aviation heater equipment.
Before ordering SD-96, the marking should be checked against the heater manual, aircraft parts catalog or equipment passport. Similar aircraft igniter plugs may look close externally, but differ by thread, connector, working length or ignition system compatibility. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, heater or preheater type, installed ignition unit and the part number from the maintenance documentation. The product is also known under alternative designations SD-96 and СД-96.
