Pressure Control Unit

The AD-50 is an aircraft pressure control unit used in onboard pneumatic air supply systems. It works with compressed air and controls the operating mode of the mechanical air compressor. The unit is not a pressure reducer and does not supply air to consumers by itself. Its task is to monitor pressure in the pneumatic bottle and switch the compressor between load and idle operation. In practice, AD-50 keeps the compressor from running under load when the air system has already reached the required pressure.
During operation, AD-50 reacts to pressure changes in the air bottle. When the pressure rises to the upper limit, the unit switches the compressor to idle mode. When the pressure drops to the lower limit, it returns the compressor to working mode so the bottle can be charged again. This keeps the pneumatic supply within the required range and reduces unnecessary compressor loading. On systems with AK-50 series compressors, this automatic switching is part of normal pneumatic system operation, not a separate pilot action.
The AD-50 works inside the aircraft pneumatic circuit together with the air compressor, pneumatic bottle, charging lines, non-return valves, pipelines, gauges, and consumer circuits. If the pressure does not build up or the compressor does not unload correctly, the cause is not always the AD-50 itself. Maintenance checks usually include the compressor, bottle pressure, leaks in the lines, valve condition, and pressure control unit adjustment. A wrong diagnosis can lead to replacing a serviceable unit while the fault remains elsewhere in the pneumatic system.
The AD-50 is normally associated with mechanical air compressors of the AK-50 series, including AK-50T installations mentioned in technical references. Its function is to prevent continuous compressor loading after the pneumatic bottle reaches the required pressure. This is important because the compressor is a mechanical unit and should not remain under load longer than needed. The pressure control unit directs the system between charging and idle operation according to pressure level, which keeps the pneumatic supply ready for use without excessive compressor work.
Before ordering, the marking on the installed unit should be checked against the aircraft parts catalog, acceptance label, or maintenance documentation. In English-language requests the unit is usually written as AD-50. In Russian documentation it may appear as АД-50. The designation should be confirmed by the actual system configuration and by the compressor type installed on the aircraft. For a clear request, it is useful to provide the part number, aircraft type, compressor model, and a photo of the marking if available. The product is also known under alternative designation АД-50.
