Filtration and working fluids

In operation, the filter continuously passes hydraulic fluid through a regenerable filter element. The element traps particles within the specified filtration range and can be serviced according to the technical documentation. This matters in systems working with aviation hydraulic fluids such as AMG-10 and 7-50S-3, where even small contamination can affect clearances, sealing surfaces, and valve operation. A clean filter has low hydraulic resistance, but resistance increases as contamination builds up in the element.

Bypass and shut-off valves

The 8D2.966.015-2 is normally installed as part of a wider hydraulic circuit that may include pumps, pressure lines, filters, actuators, shut-off valves, bypass paths, and service fittings. The filter assembly includes a bypass valve and a shut-off valve. The bypass valve protects the line if the filter element becomes clogged and the pressure differential rises above the set value. The shut-off valve is useful during maintenance because it helps isolate the filter location in the system layout, depending on the aircraft design.

Aircraft and equipment application

The filter is used in aviation hydraulic systems operating under high pressure with approved working fluids. Open spare-part references show the filter in hydraulic system lists for Mi-series helicopters, including Mi-24 and Mi-26, and in inventory references for Mi-8 MTV/AMT. Actual applicability still has to be checked by the aircraft parts catalog, because hydraulic layouts can differ by aircraft type, modification, and overhaul history. A visually similar hydraulic filter is not always a correct replacement if the thread, flow rating, bypass setting, or filter element differs.

Identification and ordering 8D2.966.015-2

Before ordering, the marking on the installed filter should be compared with the aircraft documentation or equipment manual. The product may also appear in documents as 8D2966015-2, without dots. For maintenance requests, it is useful to confirm whether the requirement is for the complete filter assembly or for the filter element 8D2.966.022-1. A request should include the part number, aircraft or equipment type, installation location, and a photo of the marking if available.
