The manufacturer specification for APA-5D variant 1 lists two GT40PCH6-2S generators in the ground power unit. Each machine is specified at 40 kVA, 111 A and 6,000 rpm, with an AC output of 208–200 V in that installation. This is ground-service equipment supplying an aircraft externally. The exact series-2 designation also appears in the LOM Praha electrical-equipment spare-parts specification for Mi-24/35 helicopters, a distinct application from the ground power installation.
GT40PCH6-2S construction and excitation
The GT40PCH6 family uses a brushless synchronous arrangement with a main generator, an exciter, a permanent-magnet subexciter and a rotating rectifier. Rectified exciter output supplies the rotor field while the main stator provides the three-phase power output. A separate voltage regulator acts on the excitation circuit. Shaft-speed control establishes electrical frequency, so regulation of voltage and regulation of frequency are separate functions of the complete generating system.
