GS-24A Series 3
Starter-Generator
Description
GS-24A Series 3 aircraft starter-generator
GS-24A Series 3, technically marked GS-24A-3S, is a six-pole DC starter-generator for an auxiliary gas-turbine installation. It combines three duties: cranking the TG-16M during APU start, supplying the aircraft DC buses after the APU reaches operating speed, and feeding the main-engine starter-generators during the approved starting cycle. The exact series suffix is part of the identification and must be checked on the nameplate and passport.

Documented TG-16M and aircraft application
The TG-16M operation manual identifies one GS-24A-3S on the installation and describes its use with AI-20 engine-start circuits. Maintenance documentation for the An-24, An-26 and An-30 families records the GS-24A generator on TG-16/TG-16M equipment. Series 3 is also documented on auxiliary power-unit installations used by other aircraft. Final effectivity must therefore be confirmed from the aircraft illustrated parts catalogue, APU modification and generator passport rather than from the family name alone.
Generator mode and onboard DC supply
In aircraft-bus operation, the documented voltage is 28.5 ± 1.5 V DC and the steady current is 600 A. The TG-16M installation limits bus-load power to 18 kW and permits continuous operation for up to 120 minutes under the stated installation conditions. Voltage regulation is performed by the RN-180 Series 2 regulator, while DMR-600T Series 2 provides network connection and reverse-current protection in the reviewed system.
Starting modes and associated equipment
For starting an AI-20 main engine, the generator output follows a controlled 20–60 V programme and reaches a steady 1000 A at 60 V within the limited cycle. When the GS-24A-3S starts the TG-16M itself, the aircraft supplies the unit through the PT-16MTV starting panel; the manual permits five consecutive engagements followed by 15 minutes of cooling. PRK-8MTV, OM-16-T, AOD-20 and SOD-1-2S are among the associated control and protection units documented in this installation.
Identification, inspection and ordering
Selection requires the complete GS-24A-3S marking, rotation, drive interface, terminal arrangement and confirmed APU/aircraft effectivity. The generator should be inspected for nameplate legibility, housing and cooling-path condition, drive-end damage, terminal integrity and evidence of preservation before bench testing. The offered unit is new and unused, manufactured in 2025, with one item available. Related catalogue positions are listed under Generators & Starter-Generators; cross-sells are navigation aids and do not imply interchangeability.
