Playback of aircraft wire recorder information

The P-504N is used to reproduce and analyze recordings made by onboard wire recorders such as P-503B and MS-61B. In aviation support use, the device allows ground personnel to play back crew voice communications and audio information recorded during flight. This makes the recorder suitable for post-flight analysis, investigation support and technical review of information stored on wire recording media.

Recording function of P-504N

In addition to playback, the P-504N can perform its own recording of speech and audio signals. The recorder can be used at stationary and mobile communication points for continuous recording from a microphone or communication line. Depending on configuration, the system may support recording from radio receivers, telephone lines or other connected audio circuits. Some versions may support voice-activated recording functions according to modification and documentation.

P-504N recording medium and operation

The P-504N uses a steel wire recording medium. A wire spool may contain approximately 7 km of wire and provide recording duration of up to 9 hours. The recorder operates in the speech frequency range and supports wire movement speeds used for compatibility with airborne wire recording systems. Full rewind time may reach up to 40 minutes, depending on the installed reel, wire condition and operating mode.

Ground and special-purpose application of P-504N

The recorder is applied at stationary and mobile ground communication points, on special-purpose vehicles and on light marine craft as part of ground communication and analysis equipment. It may be used by aviation ground services, maintenance organizations, communication units and special-purpose operators that need to record, reproduce or analyze speech information from wire media. The P-504N replaced earlier wire recorder equipment such as MN-61 in applications where updated ground playback and recording capability was required.

P-504N modifications and identification

The product may be referenced as P-504N, P-504NU or P-504NZ. P-504N is the base ground model. P-504NU is associated with remote control capability and playback rollback / repeat functions. P-504NZ is associated with low-impedance inputs and outputs for specialized equipment.
