Description

BZUSP376T in aircraft generator control systems

The BZUSP376T, also written as BZU-SP-376T, is an aircraft generator protection and control unit used in primary AC power supply systems. It monitors the condition of an aircraft AC generator, permits connection of the generator to the onboard network, and removes the generator from service when dangerous operating conditions appear. The unit is installed as part of a generator channel, so each generator normally has its own protection and control block. In operation, BZUSP376T works together with voltage regulation, current transformer, contactor and cockpit warning circuits.

Generator connection through the BZUSP376T unit

The BZUSP376T connects the generator to the aircraft load only after the generator has reached the required electrical parameters. The block checks phase voltage and frequency before giving the command to close the generator load contactor. This prevents low voltage, unstable frequency or incomplete generator run-up from reaching the aircraft buses. The logic is simple but important: the generator should not feed the network until the AC power is suitable for onboard consumers. In normal operation, this connection command may act through contactors such as 85E or similar load-switching equipment.

BZUSP376T protection against abnormal voltage

Voltage protection is one of the main jobs of the BZUSP376T. The block monitors generator bus voltage and reacts if the voltage rises above or drops below the allowed level. Overvoltage is treated as a dangerous condition because it can damage AC consumers, so the block disconnects the generator after the specified time delay. Undervoltage is also monitored, but with its own delay so that a short transient does not immediately remove a healthy generator from service. If the voltage fault remains, the block opens the generator channel and prevents continued operation in an unsafe mode.

Frequency monitoring by BZUSP376T

The BZUSP376T also controls generator frequency. In aircraft AC networks, especially those using stable-frequency 400 Hz power, frequency deviation is a serious fault. The block has delayed protection for frequency leaving the normal operating range and instant protection for extreme frequency failure. If the frequency drops too low or rises too high, the unit disconnects the generator and blocks the channel according to the system logic. This protects instruments, electric motors, transformers, converters and other equipment that depends on proper frequency, not only on voltage.

Short-circuit and differential protection in BZUSP376T

The unit includes differential protection for faults in the generator or feeder zone. This protection is designed to react immediately to short circuits, because fault current in a generator channel can quickly damage wiring, contactors, generator windings and distribution equipment. BZUSP376T receives current-balance signals from the associated current transformer block and compares the condition of the protected line. If a serious mismatch appears, the generator is disconnected without delay. In practice, this function is checked together with the BTT block, feeder wiring and generator contactor circuit.

Construction of the BZUSP376T block

The BZUSP376T is built as an assembly of electrical functional blocks, boards and components mounted on a common chassis. The front panel has a handle for quick removal from the mounting frame, a locking stop with a cap nut, and a grounding terminal. The rear side carries the Sh1 plug-in connector used for connection to the aircraft wiring, as well as a mechanical fixing sleeve. The frame elements are mounted on a cast heat sink, which helps remove heat during operation. This construction is intended for fast replacement in aircraft equipment racks.

Internal sections of the BZUSP376T unit

Inside the BZUSP376T, the control and protection functions are divided between several subassemblies. The BSG B1BA separate-operation block acts as the main logic section and includes overvoltage, undervoltage and bus monitoring circuits. The BUS9B amplifier block strengthens control signals going to executive relays. The BSGCh5600B frequency protection block monitors the AC frequency. The PSB2 stabilizer board provides stable internal supply for the block’s circuits. For troubleshooting, this internal division matters because a fault may affect only one protection function while the rest of the unit appears normal.

Aircraft application and supply of BZUSP376T

The BZUSP376T is used on large passenger and transport aircraft such as Il-86, Tu-204 and An-124, depending on the installed electrical power system. It may work with AC drive-generators such as GT30NZhCh12 or similar 30–40 kVA generator units, voltage regulators such as BRN-120T5A or BRN-208M7, and current transformer blocks such as BTT-30BT or BTT-30VT. The unit is mounted in electrical equipment bays, distribution racks or technical compartments on RMB-1B-type mounting frames. For supply, the full designation, frame compatibility, documents and test condition should be confirmed.
