BPR-88 Series 4
Limiter Control Unit
Description
BPR-88 Series 4 limiter control unit
BPR-88 Series 4 is the catalogue form of the БПР-88 series 4 electronic limiter-control unit. Technical descriptions of the RD-33 control system identify BPR-88 as the block that processes limiting parameters and acts through the engine fuel-control chain. The exact series marking is essential because it identifies a particular execution rather than a generic BPR-family unit.

BPR-88 Series 4 role in the RD-33 system
Within the documented RD-33 arrangement, the unit receives signals from DPI pressure sensors, SPT and DOS devices, the APD starting system and the aircraft circuits. It compares them with programmed limits and issues commands to the fuel-control equipment for the main and afterburner fuel paths, compressor-variable-geometry control and afterburner-nozzle control. This is protective and governing equipment, not a stand-alone sensor. The RD-33 is associated with the MiG-29 aircraft family, but installation on a particular aircraft must still be confirmed by its parts catalogue and engine modification documents.
BPR-88 Series 4 construction and interfaces
The documented unit is installed in an RM-88 Series 4 shock-mounted frame, with separate blocks used for the left and right engines. Five principal connectors X1–X5 carry sensor, thermocouple, aircraft-command and actuator circuits; X6 and X7 are intended for the PKR-88 Series 4 and PD-88 test equipment. The housing contains removable printed-circuit subassemblies and six protected adjustment points for compressor-speed and turbine-temperature channels.
Identification and compatibility
Order and inspect the unit by the complete BPR-88 Series 4 / БПР-88 серии 4 marking. Other BPR-88 series, BPK-88 command blocks and visually similar engine-control units can have different logic, connectors or adjustment data. A common system relationship does not make them interchangeable. Compare the nameplate, series, drawing number, connector keying and the approved RD-33 control-system documentation.
Inspection and supply
Before installation, check the housing, connector contacts, mounting points, seals and legibility of every marking. Functional testing requires the correct bench procedure and simulated engine signals; unknown pins must not be energized by analogy. An enquiry should state the complete marking, engine and aircraft modification, quantity, condition and required documents. Related units are listed under Electronic Control Units.
