Function of the A-324 navigation system

The A-324 set determines polar coordinates relative to a ground beacon, supports dead reckoning from aircraft course and groundspeed, corrects the calculated position using radio-navigation data, recognizes selected beacons and generates horizontal and vertical guidance for route flight, return and landing. A-324 system performance

Published system data specify 176 navigation channels and 40 landing channels. The air-to-ground frequency range is 726–812.8 MHz and the ground-to-air range is 873–1000.5 MHz. Stated operating range increases with altitude: approximately 50 km at 250 m, 250 km at 5,000 m, 355 km at 10,000 m and 450 km at 20,000 m. These figures describe A-324 system performance, not the electrical rating of A-324-001 alone.

Associated units and identification

A-324 documentation names the A-312-001 receiver, A-312-002 transmitter and A-324-016 processing unit among associated equipment. The related A-324-016 has its own suffix and function; the two units are not interchangeable merely because both belong to A-324. Match the complete 001 suffix, nameplate, connectors, mounting and installed system version.

Inspection and supply request

Inspect the enclosure, connector contacts, mounting points, seals and legibility of the plate before bench testing. Functional testing requires the approved A-324 procedure and the correct system interfaces. A supply request should state A-324-001, the aircraft and A-324 configuration, quantity, required condition, passport and delivery set.
