GA-185U two-position valve for aircraft hydraulic systems

The GA-185U is a two-position electromagnetic hydraulic valve used in aircraft hydraulic systems. It works as an electrically controlled hydraulic distributor for remote switching of fluid flow. The valve does not create pressure and does not replace a pump. Its task is to open or close a hydraulic line by command and route working fluid to the connected mechanism. In open references, GA-185U is described for hydraulic damper control and for parking brake circuits on Il-76 aircraft.

Hydraulic switching through GA-185U

In operation, the GA-185U responds to voltage applied to its electromagnet. The internal valve mechanism changes position and connects the required hydraulic passage according to the system layout. When the electrical command is removed, the valve returns to its defined state for that installation. This type of valve is used where a hydraulic function has to be switched from the aircraft electrical system rather than by direct manual operation at the hydraulic line.

GA-185U in brake and damper circuits

The GA-185U is used in hydraulic circuits connected with dampers and braking systems. For Il-76, open technical descriptions mention GA-185U valves in the bays of the main landing gear struts, where they are used to supply hydraulic pressure to the main and parking brake lines. If the braking or damper circuit does not operate correctly, the valve is only one part of the check. Maintenance should also include pressure supply, electrical command, connector condition, fluid cleanliness, leakage, and the condition of the connected actuator.

The clearest public application is the Il-76 parking brake and braking hydraulic circuit.
