Description

GA-142/1 landing gear hydraulic valve overview

The GA-142/1 is a three-position electromagnetic hydraulic valve used in aircraft hydraulic systems. It is mainly known as a landing gear control valve on An-24 and An-26 type aircraft. The valve controls the supply of hydraulic fluid to the landing gear extension and retraction lines. It does not create hydraulic pressure and does not work as a pump. Its job is to route pressure from the main hydraulic system to the required line, or to keep the pressure line closed when the valve is in the neutral position.

Landing gear line switching through GA-142/1

In operation, the GA-142/1 receives an electrical command from the landing gear selector circuit. When the retraction electromagnet is energized, the valve sends pressure to the retraction line. When the extension electromagnet is energized, it sends pressure to the extension line. The opposite line is connected to drain. With both electromagnets off, the pressure line is closed and the extension and retraction lines are connected to the drain system. This is the normal three-position logic used for hydraulic control of the landing gear actuators.

Manual backup control on GA-142/1

The GA-142/1 also has manual backup control through buttons installed on the valve body. This matters when the electrical control circuit fails but hydraulic pressure is still available. In An-26 descriptions, manual operation of the landing gear valve is mentioned as part of the emergency extension procedure. The manual button does not replace the hydraulic system. It only shifts the valve mechanically, so pressure can be directed to the required line. Before treating the valve as faulty, maintenance checks should include the electrical command, connector condition, manual control, spool travel, hydraulic pressure, and drain line condition.

Aircraft application of hydraulic valve GA-142/1

The GA-142/1 is used in aircraft landing gear hydraulic systems, with An-24 and An-26 being the main referenced applications. On the An-26, technical sources identify it as the electrical-hydraulic valve used for remote control of hydraulic fluid supply to the landing gear extension and retraction lines. Exact installation should still be checked by the aircraft maintenance manual and parts catalog. Similar three-position valves may differ by port layout, electrical connection, manual override design, pressure rating, or installation position.

Identification and ordering checks for GA-142/1

Before ordering, the marking on the installed valve should be compared with the aircraft documentation, technical description, or hydraulic system schematic. The product may appear as GA-142/1 or GA142/1 in English-language supply documents. In Russian documentation, the same item is written as ГА-142/1. A clear request should include the aircraft type, system location, full designation, and a photo of the marking if available. The product is also known under alternative designation ГА-142/1.
