Function and construction

Specified maintenance data describe a delayed relay, auxiliary electromagnetic relays, a contactor and resistors inside a metal enclosure. The delay prevents operation during short switching transients. The exterior includes a mounting bracket, two multipin connectors and a top control or test element.

For the fourth-series unit, normal-condition operation is specified when generator excitation-winding voltage reaches 26.5–28 V; current through the power-contact circuit is no more than 15 A. Other aircraft manuals describe overvoltage response around 29–33 V depending on the system and series, so the exact threshold must be taken from the applicable passport. Verification and technical scope

The device protects the DC bus from abnormal voltage caused by generator overexcitation. It can work with the generator regulation and differential-minimum relay chain defined by the aircraft design. A similar metal enclosure is not evidence of electrical equivalence.

Bench checks require a regulated source, measured ramp, safe load isolation and the approved test sequence. The device must ignore permitted transient increases and act at the specified sustained condition.
