Description

AGR-74-10 Series 2 autonomous attitude indicator

AGR-74-10 Series 2 is an autonomous gyroscopic aircraft attitude indicator developed for installation on aircraft with a strictly vertical instrument panel. The unit provides the pilot with visual information about aircraft roll and pitch angles and may be used as a primary or standby attitude reference, depending on aircraft configuration. The basic AGR-74-10 version is intended for a 0° panel installation angle and is used on aircraft where the cockpit instrument board is positioned vertically.

Attitude indication through AGR-74-10

The AGR-74-10 displays the spatial position of the aircraft relative to the horizon. The instrument uses direct aircraft-type indication, meaning the display represents the view from the aircraft toward the ground. The movable sphere imitates the visible horizon and is divided into sky and ground sectors, while the fixed aircraft silhouette remains connected with the instrument body. This arrangement allows the pilot to monitor roll and pitch visually during normal flight, maneuvering and instrument flight conditions.

AGR-74-10 gyroscopic operating principle

The AGR-74-10 is built around a three-degree-of-freedom electrically driven gyroscope. The gyro system provides the reference for attitude indication. The instrument also includes an internal liquid pendulum correction system, which maintains the main gyro axis in the direction of the local true vertical. This correction system compensates for gyro drift within the specified limits and helps keep the indication reliable during operation. The instrument requires a warm-up period after power is applied before it reaches its operating mode.

AGR-74-10 signal output and built-in warning

Unlike the AGR-74-15 modification, the AGR-74-10 version provides external electrical output only through the roll channel. This signal may be used by associated aircraft systems such as automatic control or flight data recording systems, depending on installation. The instrument is equipped with built-in monitoring and a mechanical red failure flag. If supply voltage is lost or a serious gyro failure occurs, the flag appears in the pilot’s field of view and warns that the displayed attitude information may no longer be reliable.

Cockpit installation of AGR-74-10 Series 2

AGR-74-10 Series 2 is designed for installation in aircraft cockpit instrument panels with a 0° inclination angle. The unit is mounted in the pilot’s instrument board where attitude indication must be directly visible. It is suitable for aircraft with vertical instrument panel posts and standard cockpit layouts using independent gyroscopic attitude references. Correct installation is important because the AGR-74-10 is intended specifically for vertical panel mounting; use on inclined panels requires a different compatible modification.

Aircraft application and ordering of AGR-74-10

The basic AGR-74-10 Series 2 version is used on Soviet and Russian passenger, transport and training aircraft where the cockpit layout provides vertical instrument panels. Application references include aircraft from the An-72 / An-74, An-28 / An-38, Tu-154M and Yak-42 families, depending on configuration and documentation. Before ordering, the exact designation, series, panel installation angle, condition, connector configuration and documentation set should be confirmed. The unit may be required for cockpit restoration, attitude indicator replacement, overhaul support or spare parts stock.
