Remote tachometer operating principle

A tachometer generator converts drive-shaft rotation into a three-phase electrical signal whose frequency is proportional to speed. Inside the indicator, this signal produces a rotating magnetic field. The magneto-inductive measuring mechanism then converts rotational velocity into pointer displacement.

In classic ITE-2 arrangements, each measuring system can operate from the relevant DTE-1 generator, while DTE-2 is used in configurations supplying two measuring systems. The aircraft or helicopter documentation defines the installed circuit. Cable routing, phase connection and the mechanical drive ratio are parts of the measuring channel and must match the approved installation documentation.

ITE-2 scale and operating data

Classic ITE instruments have a uniform percentage scale with 1% divisions. Early documentation records scales ending at 105%, while later production uses 110%; the lower measuring limit is 10% and the working section is 60–100%. The actual dial and passport therefore remain the final identification references.

Indication accuracy is checked with the generator on a tachometer test unit or against a reference frequency. Before installation, inspect pointer movement and zero, the dial, connector, housing and lighting. A similar appearance between ITE variants does not establish identical calibration or electrical compatibility.

Identification and ordering

An inquiry should state the exact ITE-2 designation, dial execution, range, lighting type, associated generator and aircraft. TB, TB1 and TB2 suffixes identify separate executions and must not be treated as interchangeable without supporting documentation.
