Generator beam pentode
Description
Purpose
GU-50 is a generator beam pentode for RF oscillation generation and power amplification. It is used in radio-transmitting equipment and other output stages designed for this tube. Unlike the larger metal-glass generator triodes in this category, GU-50 is a compact glass tube with an eight-pin base and an indirectly heated cathode.

Construction and connection
The tube has an oxide cathode with indirect heating and is operated vertically with the glass bulb above the socket. The eight pins connect the cathode, heater, anode and three grids according to the pin diagram. A correct socket and electrode wiring are therefore part of the selection; GU-50 should not be substituted for a similar-looking glass tube by appearance alone.
Electrical characteristics
The reference data specify a nominal heater voltage of 12.6 V and heater current around 0.7 A. A commonly specified operating point uses 800 V at the anode and 250 V at the screen grid. Oscillatory output is specified at no less than 55 W under the stated test conditions. The tube can operate in RF circuits, but the usable frequency and output depend on the actual circuit and cooling.
Selection
Check the marking GU-50, eight-pin contact layout, socket, heater supply and the circuit operating point before ordering. The construction and electrical conditions should match the service documentation for the transmitting or amplifying equipment. Published limit values must not be treated as a recommended continuous setting for every circuit.
