Generator triode for industrial RF heating
Description
Purpose
GU-48 is a generator triode designed for RF electroheating equipment. It can generate high-frequency oscillations in industrial heating installations, where the tube works in a circuit built for its electrode arrangement and operating limits. It is a glass tube without a conventional plug-in base, so the position and individual electrode terminals are essential when identifying it.

Construction and cooling
The cathode is directly heated carbonized thoriated tungsten. The tube is mounted vertically, with the grid and anode terminals at the top; two cathode connections are at the opposite end. Cooling may be natural or forced-air, depending on the operating regime and the equipment. The glass envelope and exposed electrode terminals should be compared with the original part before purchase.
Operating data
The data sheet gives 10 V heater voltage and 10 ± 0.8 A heater current. At an anode voltage of 2.5 kV and a 35–40 MHz operating frequency, the stated RF output power is at least 700 W. The limiting operating frequency is 75 MHz and anode dissipation is up to 300 W. Maximum mass is 850 g; the body is approximately 230 mm high and 115 mm in diameter.
Selection
For a replacement, verify the GU-48 marking, the upper grid and anode connections, two lower cathode connections, the vertical mounting position and the cooling arrangement. Check the circuit operating point against the original equipment documentation and the tube data sheet. These values describe the tube type and do not imply that every installation uses the maximum permitted regime.
