Air-cooled generator tetrode
Description
Purpose
GU-47B is a high-power generator tetrode intended for RF power amplification at frequencies up to 70 MHz. It belongs to the metal-glass family of transmitting tubes and is used as an active device in a suitable RF output stage. The designation matters: GU-47B has a finned anode radiator for forced-air cooling and should not be selected merely by similarity to GU-47A.

Construction and installation
The tube has a directly heated, carbonized thoriated-tungsten cathode. Its metal-glass structure uses ring leads for the cathode and grids; the finned external anode is cooled by a forced stream of air. The tube operates vertically. The cooling path and electrical connections must match the equipment design, because insufficient airflow or a wrong electrode connection can exceed the tube limits.
Technical data
The data sheet specifies a maximum operating frequency of 70 MHz, a height up to 260 mm, diameter up to 124 mm and mass up to 2 kg. Heater voltage is 6.3 V. The radiator and ring-lead arrangement are useful identification features when comparing the part with the original installed tube.
Selection
When requesting GU-47B, compare the full model marking, radiator shape, ring contacts, mounting space and cooling arrangement with the equipment documentation. Electrical operating conditions must be taken from the circuit and the data sheet for the exact tube. GU-47A and other similar-looking generator tubes are separate types, not automatic substitutes.
