Purpose and application
GM-4B is a high-power regulating tetrode used as the control tube in high-voltage electronic voltage stabilisers. Its function differs from an RF generator tube: it controls current in powerful regulated supply circuits.

Construction
The metal-glass tube uses a directly heated thoriated, carburised tungsten cathode and a large finned radiator. Heater voltage is 4.8–5.2 V, operating current is 39 ± 4 A and starting current may reach 60 A.
Operating data
Reference limits include anode voltage up to 9 kV, second-grid voltage up to 1.2 kV, anode dissipation up to 9 kW, second-grid dissipation up to 80 W and first-grid dissipation up to 50 W.
Cooling and selection
The radiator requires forced-air cooling. Overall dimensions are no more than 287 × 144 mm, mass no more than 6 kg and minimum service life 3000 h. Verify the full GM-4B designation and the stabiliser circuit before replacement.
