Purpose and application
GI-5B is a high-power pulse generator triode for producing RF oscillations at frequencies up to 200 MHz. It is used in common-grid self-excited circuits with pulse anode modulation and is intended for specialised high-power radio equipment.

Construction
The metal-glass tube uses a directly heated cathode. Published data specify a 6.0–6.6 V heater supply and a heater current of 425 ± 40 A. Its large body measures about 450 × 180 mm and weighs approximately 12 kg.
Operating data
Reference pulse limits include an anode voltage up to 27 kV, useful pulse output of at least 1200 kW, pulse duration up to 11 µs and a minimum duty factor of 455. Rated dissipation is 6 kW for the anode and 400 W for the grid.
Cooling and selection
Forced-air cooling is required: at least 600 m³/h for the anode, and at least 100 m³/h for both the stem and envelope. The permitted mounting positions are vertical with the anode down or horizontal. Verify cooling ducts, mounting geometry and the full designation before installation.
