Description
Purpose
SMZ 28-38+38 is a mirrored aircraft incandescent lamp for a 28-volt lighting circuit. The reflective coating on part of the glass envelope redirects light from the filament toward the working side of the luminaire instead of allowing it to spread evenly in every direction. The lamp has two independent 38 W filaments in one mirrored envelope. It is selected for fittings whose circuit and contacts are designed to switch the two light sources.

Electrical and optical rating
The nominal electrical rating is 28 V and 38 + 38 W. The published optical value is luminous flux 480 + 480 lm, with a rated service life of 90 + 90 h. The “38+38” marking describes two filaments; it must not be reduced to a single 38 W rating. These values identify the exact version and should be checked against the equipment manual rather than inferred from a visually similar bulb.
Construction
The assembly combines a clear glass section, a shaped internal mirror coating, a tungsten filament and a metal B15d/18 base. Overall dimensions are approximately 54 × 39 mm. The coating is part of the optical design, so scratches, darkening, loose internal parts or damage to the glass are reasons to reject the lamp before installation.
Selection and installation
Confirm the full designation, voltage, power, base type, contact arrangement and available envelope clearance. Lamps in the SMZ family can look similar while using different bases, filament ratings or reflector geometry. Installation should be carried out with the aircraft electrical circuit isolated. Keep the glass clean, avoid pressure on the envelope and make sure the base is locked in the holder without forcing it.
