Description

Switching incandescent lamp KM 24-90 is used as a light source for light signaling in telephone exchanges, automatic telephone and telegraph exchanges and are designed to be connected to DC or AC electrical networks. The lamp base consists of a plastic cap and two brass plates; it can also be produced without an insulating cap.
The incandescent body has increased mechanical strength and withstands vibration in the vertical and horizontal planes.

KM 24-90: identification and purpose

KM 24-90 is classified as a Aircraft Lamp and serves as a light source in compatible aircraft lighting or signalling equipment. Selection requires comparison of the complete designation, electrical ratings, construction, base or connector, mounting arrangement and passport data. Matching opening characters or a similar appearance do not establish identical characteristics or interchangeability.

A family name describes the general equipment class but does not replace the documentation for the exact execution. A suffix, additional digit, colour, bulb, base or housing variant can identify a material difference. KM 24-90 should therefore be ordered by the product marking rather than by appearance alone.

Function within the equipment

The item serves as a light source in compatible aircraft lighting or signalling equipment. Its exact operating mode is defined by the circuit and associated equipment. For lighting products, verify voltage, power, luminous output, colour, optical arrangement and fixture type. For electronic tubes and display devices, verify electrode function, heater ratings, limiting voltages and currents, cooling, pin allocation and operating range.

Numerical data retained from the original catalogue record are shown in Technical Details. Those values must be compared with the passport for the actual item. Aircraft types and systems are not assigned by analogy when reliable documentation is unavailable.

Selection and compatibility checks

Before replacement, compare the primary and alternative designations, rated voltage or current, power, base, dimensions, mass, contact arrangement, cooling requirements and environmental limits where documented. Exterior lighting units may also require confirmation of filter colour, beam direction and approved installation position.

Related members of a series may use different electrical modes, optical characteristics or mechanical interfaces. They must not be treated as interchangeable without an explicit documentary reference. General background on this equipment class is available under Aircraft Lamp.

Incoming inspection and installation

Incoming inspection includes checking the marking and supporting records and examining the housing or envelope, base, contacts, connectors, mounting points, reflector, filter and seals as applicable. Electrical measurements, photometric checks or electronic-tube bench testing must follow an approved procedure.

Install the item only in the intended fixture or equipment while observing polarity, supply mode, cooling and electrical-safety requirements. Complete the functional checks prescribed after installation. External integrity alone does not demonstrate serviceability.

Related catalogue positions

Functionally related products include KM 24-50, KM 48-50, KM 12-90, KM 60-50. They are grouped by class and family for catalogue navigation and do not imply interchangeability. More items are listed in the Landing Lights, Lamps & Beacons category.

Enquiry information

An enquiry for KM 24-90 should state the exact designation, quantity, required condition, marking photograph, delivery scope and required document set. When available, include the designation of the item and equipment being replaced. Price, actual availability, lead time and condition of the offered item are confirmed separately.
