FOAZ-1A

System function

The light forms part of the external lighting equipment of a tanker aircraft and operates with the aerial refuelling installation. Its deployable section and limited lamp adjustment direct the beam toward the monitored area. The FOAZ-1A is a dedicated refuelling-system light rather than a conventional landing light.

Operating cycle

The unit is rated for a 27 V supply and intermittent operation. Its lighting period is limited and must be followed by a cooling interval. This duty cycle is relevant during inspection and operation because the light is intended for observation of the refuelling assembly, not continuous area lighting.

Selection checks

Before ordering, compare the FOAZ-1A designation, 318 × 228 × 127 mm dimensions, deployment angle, lamp adjustment range, mounting and electrical connection. Confirm application against the documentation for the specific aircraft and refuelling unit.

FOAZ-1A inspection points

Before installation, inspect free movement of the deployable section, secure positioning, lamp adjustment through ±8° and the condition of the optical element. The cable, connector and housing sealing also require attention because the light operates outside the aircraft and is exposed to vibration, airflow, moisture and temperature changes.

The limit of no more than 20 minutes of lighting followed by a cooling period is operationally significant. A lamp rated up to 265 W produces substantial heat, and excessive continuous operation may affect the optics, wiring and housing. Functional testing should therefore follow the duty cycle stated in the product documentation.
