Description

Block 2 / IZH2.000.063 transmitter unit for R-863

Block 2 / IZH2.000.063 is an onboard transmitter unit used as part of the R-863 aircraft command VHF/UHF radio station. The unit combines the radio-frequency transmitting section with the internal power supply circuits of the radio station. It is intended for formation, amplification and output of RF signals in the VHF and UHF aviation communication bands.

Function of Block 2 in the R-863 radio station

Within the R-863 system, Block 2 works together with the receiver-exciter unit. In transmit mode, the exciter section of Block 1 generates the required RF signal, while Block 2 amplifies this signal to the specified transmitter output power. In receive mode, the complete transmitter path is not active, but the power supply section of Block 2 continues to provide stabilized voltage for receiver circuits and other internal radio station units.

Power supply section of IZH2.000.063

The built-in power supply section, identified as Block 2-1, converts aircraft DC power into internal stabilized voltages required by the radio station. According to the supplied data, the power supply provides stabilized +12.6 V for the receiver circuits of Block 1, including operation in receive mode. This makes Block 2 not only a transmitter unit but also an important internal power distribution element of the R-863 radio station.

VHF and UHF power amplification

Block 2 includes separate amplification paths for the VHF and UHF frequency ranges. The VHF power amplifier section supports operation in the 100–149.975 MHz range and includes a preliminary power amplifier and VHF filter-reflectometer section. The UHF power amplifier section supports operation in the 220–399.975 MHz range and includes preliminary and intermediate power amplifier stages, as well as a UHF filter-reflectometer section. These subassemblies support correct RF output and antenna path monitoring.

Installation of Block 2 on aircraft and helicopters

Block 2 is installed as part of the R-863 transceiver assembly on a common shock-mount frame together with the receiver-exciter and related radio blocks. The assembly is normally located in the aircraft radio equipment compartment or avionics rack, while control is performed remotely from the cockpit control panel. Typical aircraft application may include An-26, An-30, Il-76, Su-24, Su-25, Su-27, MiG-29, Mi-8, Mi-24, Mi-26, Ka-52 and other aircraft equipped with compatible R-863 command radio systems.

Identification and ordering of Block 2 / IZH2.000.063

The product may be referenced as Block 2, Блок 2, IZH2.000.063, ИЖ2.000.063, R-863 transmitter unit or R-863 transmitter and power supply unit. For correct supply, it is useful to specify the radio station version, aircraft type, installed transceiver configuration, connector configuration, condition, documentation requirements and whether the block is required as a standalone spare part or as part of a complete R-863 radio station set.
