Automatic playback function of RI-65-10

The main task of the RI-65-10 is to reproduce voice messages when command signals are received from onboard aircraft systems. These signals may come from warning circuits, sensors, relays or other equipment that monitors aircraft system states. After receiving a valid trigger signal, the unit starts the corresponding voice message cycle. The message is played back automatically, helping the crew quickly identify an abnormal condition, warning or system command without relying only on lamps or non-verbal sound signals.

RI-65-10 as a tape-based message unit

The RI-65-10 is a multi-channel tape-based device. Its recorded messages are stored on a tape medium and reproduced through the aircraft voice warning system. This design belongs to an earlier generation of onboard speech informers, before solid-state voice warning equipment became common. Because of the tape-based construction, the condition of the internal mechanism, message carrier, playback path and audio quality matters during inspection. A unit may power on but still produce poor or unstable speech if the tape path or playback mechanism is worn or contaminated.

Crew alerting role of RI-65-10

The RI-65-10 is used to provide timely verbal information to the flight crew during aircraft operation. Voice warnings are especially useful in noisy cockpit environments because they communicate the nature of the warning directly. The unit is designed to provide high speech intelligibility over the standard voice-frequency range. Depending on the aircraft system configuration, messages from the RI-65-10 may be routed to crew headsets through the onboard intercom and, with the matching amplifier, to other audio or radio paths.

RI-65-10 with RI-65-20 and RI-65-30

Within the RI-65B system, the RI-65-10 operates with the RI-65-20 remote control panel and the RI-65-30 matching amplifier. The RI-65-20 provides control functions, while the RI-65-30 is used for matching and amplification where the aircraft audio system requires it. This means replacement should be checked at system level, not only by the RI-65-10 designation. The connected panel, amplifier, wiring, trigger signal assignment and aircraft audio path must be compatible with the unit.

Electrical triggering of RI-65-10

The RI-65-10 is powered from the aircraft 27 V DC network and accepts trigger signals within the specified voltage range. For reliable message start, the trigger signal must meet the minimum duration and signal front requirements. If the unit does not reproduce a message, the cause may be the RI-65-10 itself, but it may also be the command line, relay contact, wiring, connector, power supply, control panel or aircraft warning logic. Troubleshooting should therefore include both the message unit and the related input circuits.

Operating conditions of RI-65-10

The RI-65-10 is designed for aviation operating conditions, including low and high ambient temperatures, high humidity and wide atmospheric pressure variation. It is intended to remain serviceable in aircraft and helicopter environments where vibration, acoustic noise and climate loads are typical. During maintenance, attention should be paid to the housing, connectors, tape mechanism, recorded message quality, playback cycle, power supply and trigger response. For long-stored units, internal tape and mechanism condition should be checked carefully.

Supply and inspection of RI-65-10

For procurement or replacement, the full designation RI-65-10 should be specified. Alternative writing such as RI6510 or RI 65 10 may appear in requests, but the technical designation should be kept as RI-65-10. It is important to confirm whether the customer needs only the playback unit or a complete RI-65B set. Before installation, the unit should be checked for markings, housing condition, connectors, trigger operation, playback quality, speech intelligibility and compatibility with the aircraft voice warning system.
