Flight Data Recording System
Available on back-order
The BUR-1-2Zh is an onboard flight data recording system designed for helicopters. It collects, records and preserves parametric flight information during aircraft operation. The system is installed as part of the helicopter’s onboard monitoring and safety equipment and is used to store data on flight parameters, engine operation and equipment status. In service, BUR-1-2Zh is associated with Mi-8 family helicopters, including Mi-8MT, Mi-8AMT and Mi-171.
The main task of the BUR-1-2Zh is to record flight parameter information during helicopter operation. The system receives signals from onboard sensors, control circuits and aircraft systems, then forms a recorded data stream for storage in the protected onboard recorder. These records are used for post-flight analysis, operational monitoring, maintenance review and investigation of aviation incidents. The system records both analog parameters and discrete commands, which allows it to capture not only measured values, but also important system events.
BUR-1-2Zh is part of the helicopter’s standard flight data recording architecture. It does not simply display information to the crew; its purpose is to preserve data for later processing. Recorded parameters may describe flight dynamics, powerplant operation, control positions, equipment status and system commands. This makes the system useful for routine operation and critical for understanding what happened before and during an abnormal event. The value of the system depends on correct sensor connection, recorder condition and data processing after flight.
The BUR-1-2Zh set includes several main units. The PU-25 control panel provides control and indication functions. The BSPI-4-2 data acquisition unit receives and processes incoming signals. The ZBN-1-1 protected onboard recorder stores the flight data, while the RA-37K mounting frame provides installation and vibration protection for the equipment. These components work together as one recording system, so when ordering or replacing parts, the required unit or complete set should be specified clearly.
The protected onboard recorder in the BUR-1-2Zh system is designed to preserve recorded information under severe impact and fire conditions. The recorder keeps the protected flight data archive for later extraction and analysis using ground equipment. This is the part of the system most directly associated with data survivability after an incident. During maintenance, the condition of the recorder, connector, mounting, sealing and documentation should be checked carefully. A fault in data recording may still come from the BSPI unit, sensors, wiring or power supply, not only from the protected recorder.
The system records analog parameters and discrete commands from helicopter systems. Analog channels are used for measured values, while discrete commands capture system states and events. This combination allows the recorder to build a useful picture of helicopter operation. The system registers parameters at the specified recording speed and stores the protected archive for a defined duration. Correct operation depends on the recorder itself, but also on sensor calibration, wiring condition, power supply quality, grounding and aircraft-specific configuration.
Recorded information from the BUR-1-2Zh system is processed after flight using dedicated ground data processing equipment. The system is associated with SNUO-1 equipment, including UVS-3, UVOP-1 and GU-1 units. Ground processing allows technical personnel to decode, review and analyze recorded parameters. This is important for both regular operational control and investigation work. Without the correct ground equipment and documentation, the protected recorder may contain data, but the information cannot be properly interpreted.
For procurement or replacement, the full designation BUR-1-2Zh / БУР-1-2Ж should be used. It is important to confirm whether the requirement is for the complete system set or for a separate unit, such as BSPI-4-2, PU-25, ZBN-1-1 or RA-37K. Before installation, the components should be checked for completeness, markings, connector condition, mounting compatibility, power supply behavior and available documentation. For aviation use, passport and operational documentation should be confirmed where available.
