The BUR-1-2 Series 2 is an onboard flight data recording system designed to collect, process, record and preserve aircraft flight parameter information. It is used during normal aircraft operation and also provides protected storage of recorded data in the event of an aviation incident. The system records information from aircraft sensors, onboard systems and control circuits, creating a structured archive of flight, engine and equipment parameters for later analysis.
The main task of the BUR-1-2 Series 2 is to receive flight data from different aircraft sources and prepare it for recording. The system works with analog signals and discrete commands, converting them into a recording format used by the onboard storage unit. This allows the aircraft operator and maintenance personnel to review flight parameters after operation. In more serious cases, the recorded data can be used for post-incident analysis together with certified ground-based data processing equipment.
The standard configuration of the BUR-1-2 Series 2 includes the BSPI-4-2 Series 2 flight data acquisition unit, PU-25-1 control panel, ZBN-1-3 Series 3 crash-protected onboard storage unit and RA-37K mounting frame. In this configuration, the BSPI unit collects and converts information, the PU-25-1 provides control and monitoring functions, and the ZBN-1-3 Series 3 stores the protected flight data. The RA-37K frame provides the required installation and vibration protection for the equipment set.
The ZBN-1-3 Series 3 is the protected onboard storage unit included in the standard BUR-1-2 Series 2 set. Its role is to preserve the most important recorded flight data under severe operating and emergency conditions. The protected storage unit records the final part of the flight data archive and is designed according to survivability requirements for flight recorders. During procurement, the exact storage unit series should be confirmed, because the system configuration specifically calls for ZBN-1-3 Series 3.
The solid-state onboard operational storage unit TBN-K-4 Series 2 is not included in the standard BUR-1-2 Series 2 set. It may be connected additionally when expanded recording capability is required. This distinction matters when preparing a quotation or checking a delivered kit. The standard set and optional storage equipment should not be mixed in the description. If the customer requires the TBN-K-4 Series 2, it should be specified separately with its own condition and documentation.
The BUR-1-2 Series 2 records analog parameters and discrete commands from aircraft systems. The number of analog channels and discrete command lines depends on the system configuration, but the standard data acquisition unit can process up to 25 analog channels. Recorded information is formatted according to ARINC 573. The system is intended for structured recording of aircraft operation, not for casual monitoring only. Accuracy of recorded parameters depends on the recorder units, sensors, wiring, connectors, calibration and correct aircraft-specific configuration.
The BUR-1-2 Series 2 is designed for aviation operating conditions, including wide temperature range, high humidity, vibration, linear acceleration and shock loads. The system must remain functional during normal aircraft operation and preserve recorded information when exposed to harsh conditions. For installation and maintenance, attention should be paid to mounting, connector condition, power supply, grounding, shock-mounted frame condition and correct installation of the protected storage unit. A fault in recorded data may come from the recorder itself, but also from sensors, wiring or aircraft configuration.
For procurement or replacement, the full designation BUR-1-2 Series 2 / БУР-1-2 серия 2 should be stated. The required configuration should be listed clearly, especially the BSPI-4-2 Series 2, PU-25-1, ZBN-1-3 Series 3 and RA-37K. Before installation, the system components should be checked for condition, markings, connectors, mounting compatibility, documentation and completeness. For aircraft use, product passport, operational documentation and bench-test or acceptance documents should be confirmed where available.
