The AGB-3K Series 3 is a gyroscopic aircraft attitude indicator used in flight and navigation instrument systems of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. It provides the crew with visual information about aircraft position relative to the true horizon and supports attitude control during normal flight, maneuvering and instrument operation. The instrument shows roll and pitch angles and also generates proportional electrical output signals for connected onboard systems. This allows the AGB-3K Series 3 to work both as a cockpit display and as a source of attitude data for other equipment.

Roll and pitch indication through AGB-3K Series 3

The main function of the AGB-3K Series 3 is to give the pilot a stable attitude reference. Roll indication is available through the full bank range, while pitch indication covers the specified nose-up and nose-down movement range. This information is critical during turns, climb, descent, approach, low-visibility flight and other regimes where outside visual reference may be limited. A serviceable attitude indicator must remain steady, readable and predictable, without false drift or delayed response after the instrument has reached operating mode.

Electrical output signals from AGB-3K Series 3

In addition to visual indication, the AGB-3K Series 3 generates electrical signals proportional to roll and pitch angles. Depending on the aircraft installation, these outputs may be used by onboard avionics, automatic control systems, monitoring equipment or recording systems. Because of this, the instrument should be inspected not only by its visible indication, but also by output signal behavior. If the connected aircraft system uses these signals, connector condition, wiring, power supply quality and signal accuracy become part of the serviceability check.

Gyroscopic assembly and correction system

The AGB-3K Series 3 operates on the basis of a gyroscopic assembly with a correction system. This helps the instrument maintain a stable reference while the aircraft is moving, turning and operating under changing flight conditions. The unit has defined limits for indication error, gyroscope precession and drift without correction. These parameters matter during maintenance because a gyroscopic horizon may appear normal at first glance but still have excessive drift or unstable behavior after several minutes of operation.

Power supply monitoring and warning flag

The AGB-3K Series 3 includes power failure indication. The warning flag is used to show failure of the DC circuit and loss of one AC phase. This function is important because attitude indication from a gyroscopic instrument depends directly on stable electrical power and proper gyro operation. If power supply is interrupted or one phase is lost, the crew or maintenance personnel must be able to identify that the indication may no longer be reliable. The warning flag should therefore be checked together with the main instrument functions.

Aircraft application and interchangeability

The AGB-3K Series 3 is used on helicopters and aircraft, including Mi-8, Mi-17, Yak-40, An-24, An-26, An-30 and Il-76, depending on the installed flight instrument system. It is also listed as interchangeable with AGB-3K and AGB-3K Series 3 configurations where the aircraft documentation allows it. Before replacement, the exact installation must be checked against the aircraft parts catalog, wiring diagram and instrument panel layout.
