Timekeeping and elapsed-time function of AChS-1K

The AChS-1K combines a current-time display with an elapsed-time measurement function. This makes it useful not only as a clock, but also as a flight operation instrument for timing route segments, mission phases, engine operation intervals, navigation checks or other cockpit procedures. Mechanical movement and power reserve

The AChS-1K uses a precision mechanical movement with an elapsed-time counter. The mechanism has a multi-day power reserve from one full winding, with a recommended winding interval during regular operation. The movement uses jeweled bearings to reduce friction and support stable long-term operation. Even though the instrument includes electrical heater supply, the timekeeping function itself is mechanical. This is one of the reasons why AChS-series clocks have been widely used in aircraft cockpits: the unit is compact, independent and practical for continuous cockpit service.

Aircraft operation and environmental suitability

The AChS-1K is built for aircraft operating conditions, including vibration, temperature variation and cockpit environmental loads. It is suitable for transport aircraft, utility aircraft and helicopters where a panel-mounted mechanical clock with elapsed-time function is required. During inspection, attention is usually given to the case, dial, hands, winding crown, elapsed-time controls, glass, illumination, mounting points and heater circuit. A clock may look clean externally, but its daily rate, reserve, counter operation and illumination should still be checked before installation.

The clock is installed on the cockpit instrument panel using a panel-mounted arrangement. It is commonly associated with aircraft and helicopters of Soviet and Russian design, but the exact suitability depends on the aircraft cockpit layout, power supply, lighting system and documentation.
