Electric Fan
Available on back-order
The EV-0.5-1640 is an aircraft electric fan used for cooling radio-electronic equipment. It is installed where electronic blocks need forced airflow rather than natural ventilation. In aircraft equipment bays, even a small fan can be important: heat from electronic modules builds up quickly, especially when several units operate in a compact area. The EV-0.5-1640 moves air through or around the equipment zone and helps keep the temperature of electronic components within the required operating range.
The main task of the EV-0.5-1640 is to provide a stable airflow for onboard electronic equipment. It is not a cabin ventilation fan and is not used for crew comfort. Its place is closer to avionics, radio equipment, control modules, converters, and other electronic units that need cooling during continuous operation. If airflow is reduced because of contamination, bearing wear, low speed, or poor electrical contact, the cooled equipment may start overheating even though the fan still appears to rotate.
The EV-0.5-1640 operates from an aircraft alternating-current power supply with standard aviation frequency. This model is specified for operation from a single-phase AC network. The fan belongs to the EV family, where modifications for different supply voltages may be possible depending on manufacturer execution and customer requirement. In practice, the exact voltage, phase count, and frequency must be checked by the nameplate or passport before installation. A visually similar fan from the same family may have a different electrical version.
The EV-0.5-1640 is intended for continuous operation. It can work in any spatial position, which is useful in aircraft equipment compartments where mounting direction is often dictated by available space, duct layout, or the position of the cooled unit. Continuous-duty operation does not mean the fan can be ignored after installation. Noise, vibration, reduced rotation speed, dirt on the impeller, or an increase in current consumption can indicate wear or mechanical resistance long before complete failure.
The fan is compact and lightweight, but it rotates at high speed to provide the required airflow and pressure. Because of that, rotor balance, bearing condition, and impeller cleanliness matter. Excessive noise or vibration is not only uncomfortable; in an equipment bay it may also point to a mechanical problem that can later affect cooling performance. During service, the fan should be checked for smooth start-up, stable speed, absence of rubbing, correct mounting, and secure electrical connection.
When ordering or replacing the fan, the full designation EV-0.5-1640 should be used. The electrical version should be confirmed separately, especially supply voltage, phase count, frequency, and capacitor value. For aircraft supply, the condition of the unit, passport, storage history, operating time, and compatibility with the installation should be checked. If the fan is needed for a specific electronic block or cooling duct, it is better to match it by the aircraft documentation rather than by airflow rating alone.
