Electromagnet
Available on back-order
The EMT-244A is a DC electromagnet used as an actuator in aircraft systems where a short, direct mechanical push is required. It is not a control unit by itself. The unit receives power from the aircraft electrical circuit and moves its rod in one direction, acting on the linked mechanism. In aviation installations, this type of electromagnet is usually found in small control assemblies where a valve, latch, damper, or locking element has to change position after a cockpit or automatic command.
The EMT-244A is used where the system needs a simple electromechanical action rather than continuous motor movement. After energizing, the electromagnet pushes the connected part through its working stroke. In many aircraft systems this is enough to open or close a small valve, release a mechanical lock, switch a damper position, or actuate a control element inside a larger assembly. The unit works only as the moving element. The command logic, switching, protection, and indication are handled by the aircraft wiring and the equipment around it.
The EMT-244A is known from Mi-8 helicopter technical documentation and related aviation equipment lists. It may be used in anti-icing system valve control and in other onboard assemblies where a compact DC actuator is required. In such installations it works together with cockpit switches, relays, valve bodies, control rods, dampers, and position feedback elements if they are installed. The exact location depends on the helicopter modification and the system where the actuator is fitted, so the part should be checked against the aircraft manual before replacement.
The electromagnet normally does not operate alone. It is part of a small mechanical and electrical chain: aircraft power supply, control switch or relay, wiring, the EMT-244A body, and the linked moving part. During troubleshooting, a failure may come from the electromagnet winding, power supply, wiring, mechanical sticking of the controlled part, or incorrect adjustment of the linkage. For this reason, maintenance checks usually include both electrical continuity and free movement of the mechanism connected to the actuator.
Before ordering EMT-244A, the marking on the unit should be compared with the aircraft parts catalog, repair documentation, or equipment list for the specific aircraft. The same type of electromagnet may appear in different systems, and external similarity is not enough for selection. For stored or overhauled units, it is useful to check year of manufacture, preservation condition, data plate marking, and accompanying passport. The product is also known under alternative designations EMT-244A and ЭМТ-244А.
