GS-12TO aircraft starter-generator
GS-12TO is a 12 kW DC starter-generator used on auxiliary gas-turbine installations. In starter mode it cranks the compressor rotor for engine start and cold cranking. After the starting cycle it changes to generator mode and supplies the aircraft 27 V DC network. The same machine therefore performs two different duties, and both its electrical connections and its mechanical drive interface must match the documented installation.

Function with TA-6A and TA-8 auxiliary power units
Technical descriptions identify GS-12TO on TA-6A and TA-8 installations. The TA-6A configuration is documented on the Il-76 family, where the auxiliary power unit supports autonomous engine start and ground services. The generator may supply the onboard DC network on the ground and in flight up to the documented APU operating altitude. Exact aircraft effectivity still depends on the APU and aircraft modification.
GS-12TO generator-mode performance
The recorded generator-mode rating is 28.5 V, 400 A and 12 kW. The documented armature-speed range is 5,680–7,000 rpm and the generator duty is continuous. Voltage regulation, reverse-current protection and network connection are provided by the aircraft electrical system rather than by the GS-12TO alone. Manuals for the reviewed installation associate the channel with RN-180M voltage regulation and DMR-400T-series network protection.
Starting mode and connected equipment
For starting, the recorded supply range is 20–30 V DC with average current not exceeding 600 A during the defined start cycle. The output shaft is disconnected at approximately 3,000 rpm in the documented installation. The exact switching sequence, time limits and permitted repeated starts are controlled by the approved APU starting system; values from other GS-12 variants must not be substituted.

Selection requires the complete GS-12TO marking, rotation and drive data, connector arrangement and APU effectivity.
