Radar mode and operating-state controls

The OFF / STBY / TST / ON selector establishes the commanded radar operating state. OFF removes the radar operating command, STBY prepares the system without normal transmission, TST supports the approved self-test presentation, and ON enables radar operation through the connected system. Actual transmitter behaviour and safety precautions depend on the associated antenna, receiver/transmitter and installation logic.

The Wx key selects weather display, while WxA provides the supported weather-alert presentation. GND MAP selects ground-mapping mode. These controls send commands to the connected radar and EFIS arrangement; the panel does not generate the radar picture itself. Mode annunciation appears on the compatible display, so correct operation depends on system wiring, symbol generator configuration and radar equipment status.

Gain, tilt and vertical-profile functions

The GAIN control adjusts receiver gain where manual gain is supported. The TILT control commands antenna elevation up or down, allowing the crew to position the radar beam relative to the aircraft flight path. Pulling the tilt control disables antenna stabilisation where that function is installed and approved. These controls must be used according to the applicable radar pilot guide because incorrect tilt or gain can hide relevant weather returns.

The front panel also includes a VP key and left/right TRK controls associated with vertical-profile radar installations. A lightning-symbol key is present for the supported lightning-detection interface. The existence of a key does not by itself confirm that the connected aircraft system has the corresponding sensor or option enabled. System configuration and display software determine which commands are active.

EFS 40/50 and radar-system integration

Bendix/King EFS 40/50 documentation identifies the CP 466A as a radar control panel used when compatible RDS 81, RDS 82, RDS 82VP, RDS 84 or RDS 84VP weather radar is interfaced to the electronic flight instrument system and a combined radar control/display is not installed. A typical command path is CP 466A → EFIS and radar interfaces → radar antenna/receiver/transmitter, with the processed weather presentation shown on the compatible electronic display.

The CP 466A is related to the radar sensor, display and symbol-generator equipment in that installation, but it is not interchangeable with them. CP 466B is documented for different radar configurations, and CP 467 serves other EFIS control functions. Before replacement, confirm the exact radar model, EFS software configuration, connector pinning, faceplate, lighting, modification status and aircraft wiring.

Identification, serviceability and ordering

The authentic rear photograph shows the chassis, rear connector and the original identification area for Part Number 071-01438-0702. Receiving inspection should compare the exact Part Number, model, serial number, modification marks, faceplate controls, rear connector and housing with the purchase order.
