VHF communication operation

The communication section covers the conventional civil VHF voice band. The standby frequency is selected with the COMM tuning control, then moved into the active window with the adjacent transfer key. Pulling the control marked PULL 25K relates to the frequency-selection step used by this 25 kHz version. The transmitter provides 10 W minimum output according to the KX 155/165 installation manual.

Correct operation depends on the aircraft microphone and push-to-talk circuit, audio panel, headset or speaker, antenna, coaxial cable, power wiring and circuit protection. These external items are not part of the radio itself. Installation testing should confirm receiver sensitivity, transmitter power, frequency accuracy, modulation, sidetone, squelch, audio quality and active/standby transfer without assuming that a previously installed rack or connector is automatically suitable.

VOR, localizer and glideslope reception

The navigation receiver supports VOR and localizer operation, while the integrated glideslope receiver supplies vertical approach information to a compatible indicator. The NAV control tunes the standby navigation frequency and the transfer key exchanges it with the active frequency. The PULL IDENT function allows station-identification audio to be monitored through the aircraft audio system.

Documented indicator options for KX 155 installations include VOR/LOC indicators such as KI 203 or KI 208 and VOR/LOC/glideslope indicators such as KI 204 or KI 209. These are associated units, not substitutes for the KX 155. Selection depends on whether the installation must present glideslope, on the required flag and deviation interfaces, and on approved aircraft wiring. The exact indicator and any switching or annunciation must be checked in the installation data.
