Communication functions and 8.33 kHz selection

The communication section covers the civil VHF voice band and provides 2,280 selectable channels when 8.33 kHz operation is enabled. The concentric COMM control tunes the standby frequency, and the transfer key exchanges standby and active selections. Pulling the tuning control selects the 8.33 kHz channel-entry mode marked on the exact front panel. The transmitter is rated for 10 W minimum output according to the KX 155A/165A installation data.

An installation includes the aircraft microphone, audio system, headset or speaker path, antenna, coaxial cable, circuit protection and interlocks defined by the approved wiring. The transceiver is not a complete radio installation by itself. Audio level, sidetone, squelch, microphone compatibility and transmitter performance must be checked after installation in accordance with current maintenance instructions and the aircraft radio licence requirements applicable to the operator.

VOR, localizer and glideslope navigation

The NAV receiver supports VOR and localizer reception, while the integrated glideslope section provides vertical approach information. The active and standby NAV frequency arrangement reduces the need to retune directly over the active selection. The PULL IDENT control supports station-identification audio, the TIMER key accesses elapsed-timer functions, and the MODE control selects the approved navigation display mode.

KX 165A versions provide navigation outputs for compatible course-deviation and horizontal-situation indicators. The -0201 configuration is described with left/right, glideslope and flag outputs plus a King serial data output that can support a compatible radio magnetic indicator installation. These are electrical interfaces, not proof that every indicator is approved with every aircraft. The exact indicator, connector, annunciation and switching arrangement must be verified from the aircraft wiring diagram and the KX 155A/165A installation manual.

Installation and exact configuration checks

The authentic side photograph shows the identification plate for P/N 069-01033-0201. Before installation, compare that plate with the purchase order and inspect the model, serial number, modification status, supply voltage, display, front bezel, mounting rack, connectors and cooling provisions. A visually similar KX 155A, KX 155 or KX 165 is not automatically interchangeable.

Bench and aircraft checks should confirm transmitter power, receiver sensitivity, frequency accuracy, audio quality, active/standby transfer, 25 kHz and 8.33 kHz selection, VOR accuracy, localizer centering, glideslope output, flags, serial data, lighting and timer operation. The mounting rack, connector kit, indicator, antennas and installation hardware are included only when expressly stated in the quotation. Connector pin assignments and adjustment values must come from approved data for the exact suffix.
