Compass card and dual bearing presentation

The rotating compass card presents heading when driven by the aircraft’s approved magnetic or stabilized heading system. The two differently colored and shaped pointers can display bearings from separate selected sources. Their exact assignments depend on the installed switching and wiring, so a particular pointer should not be labeled permanently as ADF, VOR or GPS without consulting the aircraft documentation.

By comparing the card and pointer directions, the crew can interpret relative bearing and magnetic bearing without relying on a separate heading instrument. The presentation can assist with station passage, intercepts and position cross-checking. Its accuracy depends on the remote heading source, receiver outputs, switching, wiring and indicator calibration. Heading and bearing signal chains

A second compatible source can drive the other pointer according to the installation.
