VOR, localizer and glideslope presentation

For VOR navigation, the OBS knob selects the desired course shown on the compass card, and the vertical deviation bar indicates displacement from that course when valid receiver information is present. TO/FROM information supports correct interpretation of the radial or inbound course. For a localizer approach, the same lateral indication displays displacement from the runway centerline signal according to the receiver and approach sensitivity.

The horizontal pointer supplies glideslope deviation when compatible vertical-guidance information is valid. The GS and NAV flags warn when their associated guidance is unavailable or invalid. The pilot must interpret these displays according to approved operating procedures. A centered pointer is meaningful only when the appropriate validity indications, receiver mode, frequency selection and external system conditions are correct.
