Course selection and deviation display

The OBS control rotates the compass card and selected-course reference. When connected to a compatible VOR source, the vertical deviation bar shows displacement from the selected radial or course, while TO/FROM information supports interpretation of the selected course relative to the station. During an approved localizer approach, the same lateral display shows displacement from the localizer centerline, using the sensitivity and operational limits of the connected receiver.

The horizontal pointer provides glideslope deviation when valid vertical-guidance information is supplied. NAV and GS flags warn the pilot when the associated information is invalid or unavailable. Because lateral and vertical signals come from external equipment, a centered pointer does not by itself prove that the full navigation installation is serviceable. Receiver validity, antenna condition, wiring, flag logic and indicator calibration must all be considered.

Navigation system connections

A representative chain is VOR/localizer/glideslope antenna → compatible navigation receiver → lateral and vertical deviation, validity and TO/FROM signals → KI 204 display. The OBS selection is returned through the approved interface where required by the receiver or flight-control installation. Some aircraft also route deviation information to an autopilot or flight director, but exact connections and companion units depend on the certified wiring configuration.

Official BendixKing KAP 140 documentation identifies the KI 204 as an available course-deviation indicator within an approved autopilot system arrangement. This demonstrates a documented functional relationship, not universal compatibility. A related navigator, receiver or autopilot can work with the KI 204 only when the applicable installation manual and aircraft approval support the exact interface.

Receiving inspection should compare the complete plate, serial and modification marks, bezel, compass card, course and glideslope pointers, NAV and GS flags, OBS knob, glass, connector and mounting points. Bench testing should verify card rotation, resolver or course-selection output, lateral and vertical deviation, flag operation, centering, damping and lighting using approved navigation test equipment. Connector pins and excitation requirements must be taken from current approved data.

This 066-3034-02 KI 204 is offered in Overhauled condition from partner stock with a six-month warranty. The quotation will identify the allocated serial number, overhaul organization, release documentation, test status and included accessories.
