Slaved DME display function

In an approved arrangement, the KDI 573 receives compatible display information from a master KDI 572 or KDI 574 installation. It can present distance, groundspeed and time-to-station data for the crew position. Those values originate from the associated DME system. Groundspeed and time are derived from changing slant-range distance and are most useful while the aircraft tracks toward or away from the selected station.

The KDI 573 should be understood as a repeater or slaved indicator rather than a master control head. It does not replace the master selector, remote DME transceiver, antenna or navigation-channel source. Display availability depends on the master indicator, the remote transceiver, valid ground-station replies, wiring and aircraft configuration. A blank or flagged display can therefore require system-level troubleshooting instead of isolated indicator replacement.

System composition and companion equipment

A representative chain is navigation-channel source → KDI 572 or KDI 574 master interface → compatible remote DME transceiver → DME antenna and ground station → processed distance information → KDI 573 slaved display. Every combination remains subject to the approved installation and the exact interface requirements.

The adjacent KDI 572, KDI 574 and compatible DME transceiver may be useful related products, but they are not interchangeable with the KDI 573. The KDI 572 is a master display with source selection, the KDI 574 is a master display without that selector arrangement, and the KDI 573 serves the additional display position. Replacing one model with another may require different controls, wiring, lighting or approval and must not be based on bezel dimensions alone.
