Height measurement and system relationship

Honeywell describes the KRA 405B as a lightweight solid-state airborne radar-altimeter receiver/transmitter operating from 0 to 2,500 ft. It sends radio-frequency energy through the transmit antenna, receives the terrain reflection through the receive antenna and determines the time-related height value. The resulting analog or digital output is then used by the aircraft equipment approved for that installation.

A practical signal chain is KRA 405B transmitter → approved transmit antenna → ground reflection → approved receive antenna → KRA 405B receiver and processor → compatible radar-altitude indicator, flight-control, terrain-warning or other approved consumer. The antennas, coaxial cables, display and system interfaces are separate components. They are not included unless the quotation expressly lists them.

The exact plate is the recommended value for this serial-numbered product, and approved installation or release data takes precedence over generic family literature.

Installation and current 5G considerations

Honeywell lists rigid or shock mounting and compatibility with the earlier KRA 405 rack arrangement, subject to approved installation instructions. Verify the -4001 suffix, rack, connector interfaces, RF cables, antenna configuration, power protection, aircraft wiring, output compatibility and required functional tests. Similar housing and connector positions do not by themselves establish electrical or regulatory interchangeability.

Honeywell's current 5G guidance identifies external band-pass filter Part Number 68013467-001 for certain approved compliance paths. This filter is not assumed to be part of the delivery set. Operators must establish whether their aircraft, location and regulatory approval require that filter or another approved action. No modification should be inferred from the product photograph alone.
