Mode S surveillance and crew functions

The official BendixKing MST 67A pilot guide describes a Mode S transponder supporting 4,096 reply codes, aircraft identification, pressure-altitude reporting and ground-speed information within an approved installation. It also describes Flight ID entry, Mode S elementary and enhanced surveillance functions, and data-link capability. Availability of each function depends on the connected controller, aircraft wiring and approved operating configuration.

The same documentation places the MST 67A in compatible TCAS II installations, where it responds to ground radar, airborne surveillance and traffic-alert interrogations. A typical signal path is controller or compatible flight-management and air-data input → MST 67A processing → top and/or bottom antenna → ATC or airborne interrogator. The transponder does not create pressure altitude without the approved altitude source.

Exact plate and installation identification

The authentic product view identifies the unit as an MST 67A transponder and shows Part Number 066-01143-2101 on the manufacturer plate. TSO C112, RTCA/DO-160B and software reference DO-178A Level 2 are also visible. These markings belong to the photographed -2101 unit and are not transferred from another transponder suffix or from a later ADS-B model.

The original housing includes the long remote-mount chassis, heat-sink area, mounting points, rear electrical interface and RF connection hardware. The gallery photograph is retained as the identification reference because it preserves the genuine plate and construction. System integration and replacement checks

BendixKing documentation allows diversity and non-diversity MST 67A installations, subject to the installed configuration. The transponder may work with compatible control heads and TCAS equipment, including documented CAS 67A system arrangements. Related controllers, antennas, altitude encoders, air-data sources and TCAS processors are connected equipment, but none is included with this product unless expressly stated in the commercial offer.

Before installation, confirm the complete Part Number, approved controller, diversity requirement, antenna arrangement, mounting tray, connector keying, aircraft wiring, circuit protection, software or modification status and applicable flight-manual supplement. A unit that answers on a bench can still produce an aircraft fault when the antenna, coaxial cable, altitude source, controller or bonding is defective, so troubleshooting should cover the complete surveillance chain.

The MST 67A is not automatically interchangeable with an MST 70B or another Mode S transponder. BendixKing presents the MST 70B as an ADS-B Out upgrade path for certain legacy installations, but an upgrade requires approved configuration, installation data and compliance work. Similar dimensions or connectors must not be treated as approval for a direct substitution.
