FD, AP and YD controls address flight-director, autopilot and yaw-damper engagement where those functions are installed. The DN and UP control provides the crew interface for compatible vertical-command adjustment.

SOFT RIDE, HALF BANK and TEST controls are also visible on the exact unit. Their availability and operational effect depend on the approved KFC configuration and aircraft flight-manual supplement. The presence of a labeled button does not prove that every mode is enabled in every aircraft, so maintenance personnel should verify the installation rather than assume a universal feature set.

KMC 321 in the KFC control chain

Official BendixKing KFC 275/325 pilot documentation identifies the KMC 321 as the system mode controller. The same documented equipment family includes the KAS 297C altitude and vertical-speed preselector, KCP 220 flight computer, KDC 222 air-data computer, KRG 331 yaw-rate sensor, annunciation equipment and servo actuators. The installed combination varies with the approved aircraft configuration.

A simplified command chain is pilot mode selection at the KMC 321 → processing by the compatible flight computer → commands to the appropriate roll, pitch or yaw actuator → movement through the approved mount and aircraft linkage. Navigation, attitude, air-data and yaw inputs may also feed the flight-control computer. The KMC 321 is therefore a command and status interface, not a stand-alone autopilot.

No controls from a different KMC 321 suffix have been substituted, and no unconfirmed electrical rating has been copied from another mode controller.

Exact dimensions, pin assignments, power requirements and environmental limits should be taken from the maintenance or installation data applicable to 065-0086-08. Mode-selection faults can also result from the flight computer, sensors, annunciation circuits, aircraft wiring or power distribution.
