118 to 151.975 MHz extended coverage

Manufacturer documentation lists 064-1023-02 with 25 kHz receiver selectivity, frequency coverage from 118.000 to 151.975 MHz and the 20 W transmitter configuration. This is the principal functional difference from 064-1023-00, which is also a 25 kHz, 20 W version but stops at 136.975 MHz. The additional coverage is configuration-specific and must be supported by the selected controller and aircraft approval.

The -02 version is not listed with the optional SELCAL/DF output. Other KTR 908 suffixes combine different frequency ranges with 50 kHz selectivity, lower transmitter power or SELCAL/DF capability. Because these options cannot be confirmed from the model name alone, maintenance personnel should match the complete Part Number and suffix before ordering or installing a replacement.

Remote radio operation and signal chain

The crew selects the active or standby communication frequency through the compatible cockpit controller. The KTR 908 processes the selected VHF signal, sends received audio to the aircraft audio system and accepts microphone and push-to-talk commands for transmission. Transmitter RF output then travels through the approved coaxial cable to the aircraft VHF antenna. Each stage depends on correct wiring, grounding, circuit protection and antenna-system condition.

Automatic squelch and audio leveling are documented KTR 908 system features. Solid-state construction permits rigid remote installation in the approved mounting arrangement. These functions do not make the radio a drop-in replacement for a different KTR 908 suffix, because the connected control unit must also support the frequency range and the aircraft equipment approval must cover the selected configuration.

The original identification plate on the photographed 064-1023-02 unit specifies 27.5 V DC, 0.4 A in receive and 7 A in transmit. It gives a weight of 3.8 lb, approximately 1.73 kg, and identifies the equipment as a VHF communication transceiver. The plate carries serial number 12620 and TSO C37b and C38b markings. These direct readings belong to the illustrated unit and are retained without transferring data from the -00 version.

Published installation data gives a family environmental range of -55 °C to +70 °C and an altitude qualification of 55,000 ft. For the 20 W extended-range configuration, transmitter output is documented at 20 to 26 W through 136.975 MHz and at least 16 W above 136 MHz up to 151.975 MHz. The stated operating duty cycle is one minute transmitting followed by four minutes receiving.

The photographs show the exact -02 marking, serial number 12620, original identification plate, case construction, connector cover and Bendix/King model label.
