Manufacturer installation data identifies the 064-1023-00 version as a 25 kHz-selectivity unit operating from 118.000 to 136.975 MHz. It uses the standard-frequency-range configuration and a nominal 20 W transmitter. This distinguishes it from 064-1023-02, which retains 25 kHz selectivity and 20 W output but extends the upper frequency limit to 151.975 MHz.

The -00 configuration is not listed with the optional SELCAL/DF output. This matters when selecting a replacement for an existing aircraft installation. A KTR 908 with a different suffix may look nearly identical while using different receiver selectivity, frequency coverage, transmitter power or SELCAL/DF features. The suffix must therefore be checked against the aircraft wiring diagram and approved equipment list.

Communication signal path and operating features

In a typical installation, the pilot selects an active and standby frequency at the KFS 598 or KFS 598A controller. The controller sends the selected frequency and operating information to the KTR 908. Receive audio is then routed from the transceiver to the aircraft audio system, while microphone and push-to-talk inputs command the transmitter. The radio output is carried through the approved coaxial cable to the VHF communication antenna.

The 20 W transmitter configuration provides 20 to 26 W from 118.000 to 136.975 MHz according to published specifications. The stated duty cycle is one minute transmitting followed by four minutes receiving. The authentic photographed unit carries the exact 064-1023-00 marking and serial reference KTR908-C13373.
