During operation, the KMT 112 magnetic azimuth transmitter senses the direction of the earth’s magnetic field. The KG 102A supplies excitation to the transmitter and receives the resulting magnetic-heading information through the system interface. The gyro provides short-term heading stability while the slaving circuit applies controlled corrections so the indicated heading remains referenced to magnetic north.

The heading loop then drives the compass presentation in a compatible KI 525A horizontal situation indicator.
