Right PFD and left MFD configuration

The right-hand PFD presents essential flight references such as attitude, heading, airspeed, altitude, vertical speed and navigation deviation when the required inputs are available. The left-hand MFD can show flight-plan and map information, terrain, supported traffic and weather, and other enabled pages. Knobs and buttons are located near the display associated with their function, so the -60 control arrangement follows the reversed screen roles.

This right-PFD layout is an ordering and installation requirement, not a cosmetic option. A 011-01264-50 unit places the PFD on the opposite side. Although the two versions belong to the same GDU 620 family and can be acceptable alternatives in certain explicitly approved installations, they must not be exchanged simply because the mounting dimensions appear similar. The aircraft drawing, STC data and pilot-side layout determine the permitted configuration.

The two front slots support approved navigation and supplemental database media. Database cards may become tied to a particular installation, and optional functions can require valid unlocks or subscriptions. Included media must therefore be confirmed rather than assumed from the photograph.

Data sources and integrated system operation

In a normal installation, a compatible air-data computer receives pitot-static pressure and outside-air-temperature information and sends calculated airspeed, altitude, vertical speed and temperature to the display. An approved AHRS combines inertial, magnetic and GPS-related inputs to provide attitude and heading. Compatible GPS or NAV equipment supplies position, flight-plan, course and radio-navigation information through the specified ARINC 429 and RS-232 interfaces.

Optional traffic sensors and data-link equipment can supply traffic or weather information. Ethernet, serial, ARINC and discrete connections are selected by the approved system design. The GDU presents these inputs but does not make unsupported equipment compatible. A fault annunciation may be caused by the source LRU, wiring, configuration, database or display, so troubleshooting should follow the complete signal path rather than replacing the screen without diagnosis.

Exact identification and replacement checks

The authentic plate in the gallery states GDU 620, P/N 011-01264-60, 14/28 VDC, TSO C113, ETSO C113 and DO-178B Levels C and D. Published G500H weight-and-balance data give an approximate unit weight of 6.38 pounds and an installed weight of 7.04 pounds with the rack and connector. The approved installation must provide correct mounting, cooling, power protection, bonding and connector support.

When a new, repaired or exchange display is installed, applicable Garmin instructions call for software loading and system checks even though configuration information is retained through the external configuration module. Receiving inspection should verify the full suffix, serial, PFD side, displays, controls, card slots, connector area, modification status and paperwork. Functional checks should confirm source selection, dimming, data-bus communication, alerts, databases and all connected navigation or traffic interfaces.

This 011-01264-60 GDU 620 is offered in New Surplus condition from partner stock with a six-month warranty. The unit is represented as never used surplus inventory, while storage history and commercial condition do not by themselves confirm current software, database currency, aircraft eligibility or release-document scope.
